Immunological reaction in immunized rabbit sera against Taenia solium and Taenia saginata

Abstract
Taenia solium and T. saginata are common cestodes of medical importance and important -public health problem in Korea. Untill recently, most of the diagnosis and survey for human taeniasis are made by stool examinations, anal swabs and questioning of the patient. A number of serological techniques have currently been applied to parasitic diseases.
The purpose of this study is to observe an immunological reaction of T. solium and T. -saginata with the immure animal sera. In immunized rabbit the sera were prepared weekly up to 13th week by weekly immunization with 0.1io NaCl extracted T. solium and T. saginata antigen. ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test, counter-immunoelectrophoresis test with same antigen or cross antigen were evaluated to determine their ability to detect the immune response. And, the absorption procedure is useful technique for the decrease of ,cross reaction. One ml of the 13th week hyper immune rabbit serum of certain antigen was .absorbed with 20mg of another species antigen. The comparative studies were made on the .ELISA and immunoelectrophoresis test with the pre- and post-absorbed sera.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. The O.D. (optical density) values of the ELISA in T. solium immunized sera were appeared firstly 1.000 or greater after 23 weeks immunization, and T. saginata immunized sera were after 12 weeks immunization. Generally, the O.D. values of T. saginata immunized sera were rather higher than those of T. solium immunized sera.
2. The O.D. values of the post-absorbed sera were markedly decreased than those of the pre-absorbed sera.
3. The precipitate lines were firstly demonstrated at 12 weeks both T. solium and T.
saginata immunized sera by the counter-immunoelectrophores_s test.
4. The O.D. values in T. solium immunized sera reacted with T. saginata antigen were appeared firstly 1.000 or greater after 3 weeks immunization, and T. saginata immunized sera reacted with T. solium antigen were appeared after 23 weeks immunization. Generally, the O.D. values of T. soliuni immunized sera were rather higher than those of T. saginata immunized sera.
5. The precipitate lines were firstly demonstrated at 3rd week of T. solium immunized sera reacted with T. saginata antigen and at 2nd week of T. saginata immunized sera reacted with T. soliurn antigen by the counter-immunoelectrophoresis test.
6. The precipitate lines in immunoelectrophoresis did not demonstrate both the post-absorbed sera of T. soliuna and T :saginata immunized sera. But in the pre-absorbed sera of T. saginata immunized sera were demonstrated rather another precipitate lines than those of T. soliu;n.
